Soccer season begins

Senior girls debut at UBC tournament

Shawnigan's senior girls have opened the soccer season with a bonding experience in Vancouver.

Playing in an exhibition tournament at UBC April 5-6, the girls earned a 2-2 record against strong teams from across the Province.

Shawnigan earned wins against Brentwood and Burnaby North, while falling to W.J. Mouat and Fleetwood Park.

Coach Blair Sturrock says the early tournament allowed him to get all of his players some field time in a variety of positions, while having fun as a team on the road.

Meanwhile, the junior girls were disappointed to see the opening of their season delayed. Scheduled to debut against Frances Kelsey on Tuesday, the girls will wait another week after their opponents had to cancel the matchup.
