Packing our Bags

The Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup
The sun shone brightly on our Environment Club this Wednesday as they trekked to nearby Shawnigan Creek to undertake their annual shoreline cleanup, garbage bags in hand. Shawnigan’s E-Club has long been a proud participant in The Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup, a decades-old national conservation program aimed at keeping Canadian shorelines garbage-free. Our crew typically concentrates on the outflow section of Shawnigan Creek, mere minutes from the Shawnigan campus.

Our tireless E-Club removed over 750 pieces of garbage from this small portion of our local watershed. The usual suspects were found along the shoreline, such as bottles, cans, cigarette butts, and food wrappers. Team members even waded into the water to retrieve some larger items! After thoroughly cleaning up the shoreline, students sorted through the collected litter and recycled all they could.

Thank you, E-Club, for continuing to care for our local environment, one garbage bag-full at a time!
