Our annual Board Retreat took place from January 23-25 at Sooke Harbour House Hotel with the theme of “MyShawnigan to OurShawnigan.”
The governors took part in conversations ranging from the purpose of the School to developing experiential learning, a future-proofing timetable and digital innovation at Shawnigan. The highlight of the Retreat was undoubtedly the presentations and breakout conversations between governors, the Senior Leadership Team, the elders (longest serving members of staff) and the prefects on the enduring and underlying values of Shawnigan – with personal storytelling at the heart of the group conversations.
As one governor commented: “It is a pleasure to serve a School which genuinely listens to student voices and responds to their invaluable feedback.”
The many contributions to a successful Board Retreat have helped to shape a strong sense of shared purpose for Shawnigan. The input that we received will inform our next steps on the path to a new strategic plan for the School.
We acknowledge with respect the Coast Salish Peoples on whose traditional lands and waterways we live, learn and play. We are grateful for the opportunity to share in this beautiful region, and we aspire to healthy and respectful relationships with those who have lived on and cared for these lands for millennia.
