Advisee Groups

Establishing important relationships
Last Friday’s “Black” Schedule gave us time to meet in Advisee groups. Friday’s meetings, besides encouraging students to use their Gold Books, served to introduce new students to their advisors and to re-establish connections between returning students and their advisors.

Students were also encouraged to set goals for the year using the Student Learning Plan at the back of their daily organizer.

Mrs. Milne wrote the following description on the crucial role Advisors play in a student’s Shawnigan journey:

The Advisor-Advisee relationship is among the most important relationships at Shawnigan. From the day students first arrive to the day of their graduation, the Advisor is a key part of a support system designed to maximize every student's potential and resolve any issues that arise. Advisors support students as they meet the demands of a Shawnigan education. They assist with the decision making process. They communicate regularly with parents and can serve as a valuable first point of contact with the School. Advisors strengthen the work already being done by House Directors, teachers and coaches, and work to ensure a positive Shawnigan experience for all students.

With this valuable meeting time built into the weekly schedule, both students and teachers will benefit from an equal exchange of ideas, planning, and experience. Parents should also expect to be in touch with advisors over the next two weeks.

Shawnigan Lake School is adhering to all COVID-19 guidelines released by the BC Ministries of Health and Education, including those regarding learning cohorts, physical distancing and mask-wearing when appropriate.
