Giving the Gift of Word

Student Philanthropy at Shawnigan

In keeping with the Shawnigan Response and Guiding Principles established in March 2020, one of which is our commitment to stepping forward to support our local and surrounding community, this year our students will be recognising National Giving Day by sharing the Gift of Word with those in the Shawnigan Village and the Cowichan Valley.
What people truly crave right now is connection, and when they receive the handwritten cards from our students, they will feel part of this caring and supportive community we call home.

Initially started in America in 2012 as a response to Black Friday, Giving Tuesday has grown into a global movement inspiring people and organisations to transform their communities and the world.

This year, each boarding house has identified a group living within our local community to whom they will express their thanks, gratitude and appreciation on behalf of all the students at Shawnigan Lake School.

Next Tuesday, December 1, one of our school drivers will be dressed up as Santa Claus and travel through the Cowichan Valley, stopping at the fire department, hospital, local businesses and care homes, to safely drop off the heartfelt messages from our students in time for Christmas.
