Tennis winners

Shawnigan's School championships

Shawnigan Tennis Director Stewart Candelaria lauded Shawnigan's tennis stars for one last time during lunch on Monday.

In announcing the winners of this year's School tournaments, Coach Candelaria paid special tribute to Pol H's "superior efforts" during the season as well as the outstanding tennis and squash career of Nour E.   Both of those athletes came second in their respective events.

Grade 10 star Verena H. won this year's Chu Cup for girls singles.  Verena also teamed up with Max B. to win La Coupe de Toute Saison for mixed doubles.

In his final event at Shawnigan, racquet sports standout Ryan P. won the Grogan Cup (for boys singles) for the second consecutive year.

Mr. Candelaria will be retiring at the end of this year.  His career concludes with the Shawnigan tennis team having qualified for the Provincial Championship in six straight years and having finished in the top three in 11 of the past 17 years.
