SOUL Circle

Our first virtual open mic night
Wednesday night marked the launch of “SOUL Circle,” a virtual open mic night for the Shawnigan community. Part of the “Lift my SOUL” program – designed to give inspiration to the School – “SOUL Circle” was conceived of and co-ordinated by music teacher Jack Connolly. “I wanted to plan an event where people could hear students play music that they have written recently or that has inspired them during this time,” shares Mr. Connolly. “It’s kind of like a regular musical check in with the community.”

Intended to occur every two weeks, “SOUL Circle” will feature Shawnigan students and staff members performing music, comedy or skits. The first event saw several students join us from around the world to share their voice, guitar and piano talents to an appreciative audience. We were even treated to two original songs from Nicholas W. and Chelsie W.! A recent Shawnigan graduate, who is currently studying performing arts in university, made a special guest appearance to conclude the evening.

“Some of the performers are seasoned and some are new to performing, but I wanted to provide a less formal opportunity for students to express themselves musically to the community,” explains Mr. Connolly.

What a wonderful opportunity to see some familiar faces, enjoy great music, and come together as a community! We look forward to the next round of performances on May 6.
